Earlier this month, our very own Colby Lysne sat down with the the American Advertising Federation in Kansas City to discuss his work, upcoming projects and the sources of his inspiration.

In the interview, Colby discusses his start in photography and design during the dot com boom and the process of discovering that photography was his true passion. Being an independent business owner in the creative field, Colby also goes in-depth about maintaining the creative spark that keeps him making everyday. And, of course, Colby mentions his love of the creative atmosphere of Kansas City, in music, fine art and agency creatives.

Tips for a Happy, Healthy Valentine’s Day!

February 14, 2017 in Uncategorized

Here at KKR, we are always looking for ways to help our community, and this month, we want to talk about Valentine’s Day! Avoiding our sugary guilty pleasures can be difficult, especially during the romance holiday. With so many heart-shaped candies and chocolates around the office and at social events, our healthy diet can suddenly seem less and less appealing. So whats the secret? How do you get through Valentines Day without that post sugar-feast guilt?

Working long hours and putting your all into your days at work can be exhausting and a little encouragement can go a long way, but sometimes encouragement helps the most when its coming from your significant other, a close friend, or coworker. This Valentines day, try these techniques to keep each other on track to your goal!

1) Helpful Reminders

What is your goal? Maybe you’re aiming to be gluten or dairy free, maybe you’re trying to cut out processed foods, maybe you’re just trying to be a little healthier everyday. Remember to write this goal in your journal to keep you focused! You and your partner may not share the same goals, and thats okay! Know and understand their goals, and most importantly, their reason for choosing these goals. Why was this change important to them? Knowing these details and giving some helpful reminders will help you both keep each other focused and positive! Leave some helpful post-it notes for your office buddy, make a healthy meal for your significant other, or send your friend some supportive text messages. If you feel yourself struggling, they may be as well. Keep the positivity going!

2) Meet Them Where They’re At…

No matter what your goal is, its not going to happen all at once. Evaluate where each of you are in comparison to your goals and move on from there. Don’t expect perfection from yourself or from your friend. Take it step by step and congratulate each other along the way. Keep it gradual and, every once in a while, look at how far you’ve come. Breaking the unhealthy cycle can be a long and trying journey, but it can be so much easier with someone cheering you on!

3) Enjoy Some Healthy Alternatives!

Make something together! Just because you’ve decided to make healthier choices doesn’t mean you have to lose your sweet tooth altogether. Try some sweet veggies, like sweet potatoes, red peppers and roasted carrots, to curb those sugar cravings. And if you’re looking for a dessert to top off your valentines day dinner or something to bring to an office party, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
