Stay Energized Through the Last of Winter

March 14, 2017 in Dana Sabre, Grace Chon, Sabrina Helas

The end of winter is in sight (thank goodness) and its almost time to spring into the spring season. But as the chilly days begin to dwindle, some of us begin to feel a little worn down. The mornings feel harder, the days seem longer, and springing into anything, even the warmer season, seems impossible. It’s tough to face a long day at the office while the end-of-winter-slump has you down. Well, today we’ve got some great advice on keeping that spring in your step.

Chronic or seasonal lack of energy can benefit from something as simple as a change in diet, aroma therapy, or a shake-up of your daily routine. Below are some of our favorite tricks for keeping the winter blues at bay!

Get Hydrated!

Studies have shown that even mild dehydration can slow your metabolism and greatly reduce your energy. In fact, tiredness is the first sign of dehydration, so fill up that water bottle! Not drinking enough water can affect your mood and your ability to think, so a couple days of hydration will keep you perky and productive. In addition to improved mood and focus, H20 can keep migraines and headaches at bay, help with weight loss and flush out toxins.

However, even with all these benefits, we understand that drinking water may not be the most appealing option. When we have coffee and sugary juices to choose from instead, water is not always be our first choice. If you’re aiming to stay hydrated this season, try adding some healthy flavors. You could try a pinch of cayenne pepper, or lemon or orange slices. Our favorite is a little bit of basil, sprigs of mint and cucumber slices. Tastes like a spa in a bottle!

Nuts, Seeds & Oils

Nuts, seeds and oils are a fantastic source of healthy fats which are great for keeping your energy up while helping you feel full and satisfied. Its a great way to start your morning with a jolt! Coconut oil, avocados, peanut butter, almonds and walnuts are just a few ways to help yourself to some healthy fats. Whether as a side to your breakfast eggs, tossed into a smoothie or as a midday snack, these ingredients are healthy additions to your daily routines.

Dark, Leafy Greens

Spinach, kale, cabbage and their dark green friends are plentiful source of vitamins to keep you going all day. These veggies are high in vitamins A and C, and they’re loaded with B vitamins, known as the energy vitamins. Try a leafy salad for lunch and ride out a healthy energy buzz that’ll last you all day!

Want to keep your energy up once you get home? Try one of our favorite essential oil recipes! Its a great scent to add to your diffuser for a bright, exciting scent that will keep you focused and productive even when you’re wearing your slippers.

In equal parts:

Lemon

Grapefruit

Peppermint

Here’s to an energized spring into the coming season and warmer days to come!
